KP & CO Case Study: Why we chose aspiring panda as our cloud storage provider

We spoke to KP & Co about their challenges with secure storage and the importance of keeping their client’s data safe. They turned to Aspiring Panda for an effective cloud storage solution that would meet their objectives of protecting their data and assets from any potential external threats.

Why did you choose Aspiring Panda as your cloud storage provider?

We have known the company founders for several years, following a chance meeting at a networking event and we also provide accounting services to them. This prior relationship meant that when our accountancy firm KP & Co were looking to move from external servers to cloud services, AP was the first and only choice.

What do you like the most about Aspiring Panda?

They gave us a practical and helpful explanation of the cloud services upfront and took on an advisory role by carefully discussing all the technical jargon. What we value the most from them is their trustworthiness, honesty and transparency; there was no hidden small print or unknown uncertainties. So far we are happy with their service, so much so that we’ve already recommended them to our accountancy peers.

What made you decide to opt for cloud storage for your business?

At the time all our data was being held on the C Drive, and we were looking for external servers as an alternative solution. Since we knew of the potential risks of our data being compromised on our internal servers, we were advised that cloud storage would ultimately be the most suitable solution for us.

How has the cloud helped your business?

We have that peace of mind that all our client data is secured and backed up and most importantly we are at much less risk of security breaches.

What challenges did your business initially face and how did the cloud resolve it?

We are always working with sensitive client financial data that increases on a daily basis so having that information in the cloud provided an extra layer of security. Naturally, the cloud storage capacity will have to increase as our business grows and we expect Aspiring Panda to make that process a straightforward one.

What has been your experience of Aspiring Panda’s cloud storage service so far?

This is the first time we have ever used cloud storage for the business and whilst it’s only been 8 months, we are very happy with the services that has been provided and haven’t experienced any issues. The transfer of client data was a smooth transition without any losses helped by the fact that all data is automatically mirrored and synchronised on the cloud. As we work in a serviced office, we were mindful of any potential breaches on the shared network but fortunately the whole implementation took just 4-6 weeks. Aspiring Panda ensured we had practical training to fully understand the cloud and access the data whenever and wherever we want. Additionally, any technical issues were very quickly resolved by the support team who were on hand 24/7.

Aspiring Panda featured in the Harrow Times, Harrow People and Watford Observer

Aspiring Panda were finalists in the Harrow Business Den 2018, pitching Time2Attend, their latest in-house solution to manage time and attendance of staff using facial recognition and geo-tracking technology.

Here is an excerpt from the Harrow Times about the event: Click here to view the original article

“This website and app development company has put forward an app which can help with recording employee attendance.

It hopes to make things easier for small to medium size businesses that rely on managing various people in several locations.

Their pitch will be led by consultant Anoop Panesar and trainee Trishan Chandarana who have been working hard on the app and believe it is ready to be put out there.

“It’s a very simple app that’s easy to use but it’s incredibly useful and very versatile,” Anoop said.

“It allows businesses to see where their employees are at certain times and is a very cost-effective way of managing this.

“As a small to medium sized business ourselves, we realise that, sometimes, it’s difficult to plug all the holes when it comes to running things – this will help with that.”

The programme allows people to log their attendance via the app and removes the need for signing time sheets and extensive spreadsheets.

It was inspired by a community development project in Uganda, which Aspiring Panda was involved in.

Anoop explained that the cost of implementing biometric fingerprint systems was extremely off-putting and forced the company to look at another way of addressing the issue of absenteeism.

“It would cost an arm and a leg to introduce the fingerprint system. This is much more accessible and much more effective,” she said.

“It levels the playing field and allows people to get a handle on how much they are losing through people missing work.

“We wanted to give this app to our local community. It’s not just about what we sell, we’re problem solvers and we want to help businesses like ours,”

She added that the company is keen on promoting its links to Harrow, as well as its commitment to inclusivity, including the high percentage of experienced women employed there.

And while the team is aware that there is a long way to go – and that the competition will be tough – it is an exciting time for those involved with the project.

“We know it is a good app; we’re passionate about it and we know it’s ready to market,” Anoop said.

“But we were all pleasantly surprised to hear that we’d made it through to the final and have the chance to present it.

“Now it’s all about preparing well so we can explain the true value of what we are offering.” “

Why Your Business Will Need To Invest In Ads To Succeed on Facebook in 2018

/ Insights      / Why Your Business Will Need To Invest In Ads To Succeed on Facebook in 2018

Why Your Business Will Need To Invest In Ads To Succeed on Facebook in 2018

In previous blogs we have outlined why fewer people are seeing your updates on your Facebook business page. In mid-January 2018 Facebook have announced they are making another wholesale change which means that fans of your page will no longer see your updates in their newsfeed.

Does This Mean I Will Need To Pay Facebook?

This is important as it means that the only way to have your content seen by potential customers will be to pay to advertise on Facebook.

Facebook ads are a powerful platform for small business owners due to their targeting, however the move to kill organic reach may see that those that don’t invest unable to reach potential customers at all.

There are lots of different options available to advertise on Facebook and the right approach will depend on the size of your audience and what you are trying to achieve.

Why Are Facebook Making This Change?

Facebook has justified this change so that users see updates from their friends and family rather than businesses. Your updates will still go out but will only be visible under an “explore feed” rather than everyone’s news feed.

How Much Will It Cost?

The cost of advertising on Facebook varies depending on the audience you are trying to reach and the content that you are creating. Quality and laser targeted content is less expensive than broad brush generic posts.

For a small business the cost of success can be very cost effective to other promotional methods and there is the advantage of being able to start slowly and build.

How To Survive The Changes To Facebook Pages

With these Facebook changes it will be more important than ever for businesses to see social media as a serious marketing discipline and integrate it with other marketing tools such as their website.

Why Fewer People Are Seeing Your Facebook Business Page Updates

/ Insights      / Why Fewer People Are Seeing Your Facebook Business Page Updates

Why Fewer People Are Seeing Your Facebook Business Page Updates

If your business has a Facebook page, you may have been frustrated over the last couple of years by the number of people seeing your posts without paying for Facebook ads.

The reason for this is that Facebook have gradually changed the computer algorithm that decides who see your posts.

Facebook’s algorithm is different for every user based on their behaviour and is influenced by thousands and thousands of different criteria making it impossible to get ahead of it for more than a short time.

With each change, the number of people that see your posts without you paying has reduced. The people that see your posts on Facebook without you paying is known as Organic Reach.

A change was made in September that has further tweaked organic reach downwards meaning that the value of each Facebook like on your page reduces every day.

Why Are Facebook Making These Changes

Facebook tell users that the changes to organic reach is to improve the experience of normal Facebook users, so their news feeds are not clogged with business updates.

However, Facebook makes its money from companies that pay to advertise via their business pages. Therefore, the harder it is to generate revenue using Facebook for free, the more people are going to advertise.

This means each change to the Facebook algorithm is designed to increase advertising revenue.

Should I Pay For Ads

With the right strategy Facebook ads are powerful. With the right content you can reach your target audience at a cost-effective price.

Moving Past Facebook Organic Reach

Because Facebook and other social media platforms are always changing, we recommend that businesses should not rely on one sales/marketing platform too heavily.

Instead the focus should be on building marketing assets such as loyalty cards, email marketing lists etc, that the business controls.

Three Ways Business Apps Can Improve Processes, Reduce Costs and Increase Sales

Three Ways Business Apps Can Improve Processes, Reduce Costs and Increase Sales

The right business mobile apps can save business owners’ time, effort and money by streamlining processes and increasing visibility of business processes.

Depending on the nature of your business there are many ways that apps can improve your business.

Here are three key areas that we have helped small businesses use mobile apps to improve processes and reduce costs.

Project/Job Management

Business apps can be used to increase the visibility that you have of your employees and the projects they are working on.

Mobile apps can be used to create project or job management tools that can track the progress of work. This can include the ability to save and store notes, photos and progress reports.

At Aspiring Panda we have built custom apps for tradesmen such as electricians to help them manage their growing workforce and jobs. The app we built for one tradesmen eliminated the need for him to sign off every job personally giving him more time to grow his business.

Monitoring and Managing Processes

Mobile apps can be combined with the internet of things to monitor and manage business processes. These can be monitored in real time and adjustments made directly in the app saving on the time and effort needed to monitor and adjust.

A good example of this in the retail sector is the HIVE heating apps, these are constantly transmitting information about the temperature of the house and allowing the customer to change the thermostat accordingly.

A recent business client we worked with used our technology to monitor and update their circuit breakers.

Storage and File Sharing

The ability to store data and give users access to it can be powerful. Tools such as Dropbox and Google docs have allowed teams to work together.

These apps can also be used to share tailored information with your customers such as educational videos, product guides and other information they may find useful.

A good example of this is the app we built for Mark Bowden a hypnotherapist. The app allows his customers to access his audio books from anywhere using the app.

If you would like to know more about how we use business apps to power growth at Aspiring Panda give us a call or drop us an email.

How To Tell If You Have A Google Ranking Penalty

/ Insights      / How To Tell If You Have A Google Ranking Penalty

How To Tell If You Have A Google Ranking Penalty

A Google ranking penalty can have a huge impact on your business due to the dominance of Google as a search engine.

Ranking on Google is important to ensure that your potential customers can find you and ensure you get a return on your digital investment. Ranking for the right search terms can potentially make the difference between business success and failure.

There are lots of different advice out there on how to do this, however not all tactics that can get you higher up in the rankings are condoned by Google. When discovered you can see your website being punished by the search giant.

This punishment comes in the form of a Google ranking penalty. This can be manual or algorithmic and see your site drop in the rankings or disappear from the search engine entirely.

How Does Google Rank Websites?

Google wants to connect users of its search engine with the most relevant information as quickly as possible. Google rewards websites that provide clearly defined and high-quality information and does not display sites that are difficult to use and are of low quality.

It does this using an extremely complex and ever-changing algorithm which is not made available to the public. It does however issue guidance and good value web design and SEO companies watch this closely to ensure their clients comply.

Why Do Google Punish Websites?

The value of ranking at the top of Google means that less reputable companies will try and “cheat” the algorithm to appear above competitors with less effort.

These tactics are known as Blackhat SEO.

When Google discovers these attempts, they are punished to restore balance and discourage others to ensure they can connect users with the most useful search results.

This results in businesses being punished due to the actions of an outsourced SEO company if they are not acting in line with the rules.

How To Tell If You Have A Google Ranking Penalty?

If you are given a manual penalty by Google then they will tell you. If your site is poorly designed or has minor infractions punished by the algorithm, the first sign may be a drop-in revenue or website traffic.

Clues that you have had a Google Ranking penalty may include:

  • Your website does not appear in results when you Google your business name
  • Dropping down the rankings rapidly
  • Messages within Google Search Console
  • Complaints by customers that they cannot find you easily online

If you are unsure about your SEO position then give the Aspiring Panda team a call and we can investigate.

Five Things That May Give Your Business A Poor Google Ranking

/ Insights      / Five Things That May Give Your Business A Poor Google Ranking

Five Things That May Give Your Business A Poor Google Ranking

Therefore, it is important you are not doing any of the things that can lead to your Google ranking falling or your site being removed from search results entirely.

Slow Website Speed

The objective of Google is to connect users with relevant information quickly, if your website takes too long to load then it is unlikely to be given priority over other faster loading results.

If your site comes back and the response time is over 5 seconds, then it may be worth speaking to your web designer about ways to improve the load times.

See our blog on slow website speeds

Duplicate Content

Repeating the same content with the right keywords used to be a great blackhat SEO tactic for getting a high ranking. However, Google realised that this usually results in a poor user experience.

Duplicate content can result in a lower Google ranking so product pages and services should be written uniquely on every occasion to avoid issues with Google.

Blackhat SEO

The use of aggressive SEO strategies that focus on rankings rather than content can have a huge impact on your Google ranking. Google punishes companies that it believes are trying to “game” the system or take shortcuts.

If you are not sure if your website is following best practice, then let me know.

Insecure Websites

Google does not want to send its users to sites that may harm its users. If your site is deemed to be insecure or have security issues then this will affect your ranking.

This could include a lack of security for online purchases or not having the most up to date software versions on your CMS platform.

Not Mobile Friendly

Smartphones and devices account for most Google searches.

The majority of websites are now optimised for mobile devices if your website is older or poorly designed then this may affect how your site ranks when users search using their smartphone.

If you are unsure check our mobile friendly guidance here

If you are unsure about your SEO position then give the Aspiring Panda team a call and we can investigate.

Do I Need A New Website?

/ Insights      / Do I Need A New Website?

Do I Need A New Website?

Some digital marketing experts will tell you that a new website will solve all your sales and marketing problems, however this ignores the investment required and risks associated with designing, building and launching a new website for your business.

Just because something new and shiny looks good, does not mean it will necessarily be right for your business. Careful consideration should be given to why a redesign is necessary and what you are trying to achieve.

Which means that deciding to rebrand your website is a big step that should be carefully analysed, particularly if your existing site is successful and well found by Google. Implementing a redesign poorly can shatter your previous work without careful implementation by experts.

It may be that you can achieve your goals with better content and small tweaks to an existing design rather than starting from scratch. A new website should be treated as a growth project.

The pros must be weighed with the cons and you should have a clear objective. A new website is not always the right choice and using plugins and other additional functionality may be the right option for your business.

3 Possible Reasons For A Website Design

  1. Your website is not mobile friendly (Test it here)
  2. Your clients tell you your website is difficult to use
  3. Your website does not match your brand

These reasons are based on whether your website is able to get found by the right people, how easy it is to use and whether the design matches the expectations of your customers. If you are in doubt about any of these factors then a new website may be worth considering.

The decision on whether a client needs a completely new website or just some functionality tweaks depends on your business, your existing website and what you want to achieve.

If you have a project that may require additional design work and want to speak to an expert call us on +44 (0)20 8861 0115.

Why The Customer Experience Of Your Website Is Vital

/ Insights      / Why The Customer Experience Of Your Website Is Vital

Why The Customer Experience Of Your Website Is Vital

The experience your customers have when they visit your website and how easy it is for them to use is vital to the success of your online presence.

If your website is unprofessional or does not meet expectations from a design perspective then your audience may not trust your company, if it is slow and difficult to find what they want they may leave before getting in contact or completing their order.

This means, between a well-designed website that a customer finds easy to use and a poorly designed one can be the difference between success and failure online.

Importance Of Design

The design expectations of your website will vary depending on the type of business and the expectations of quality that your potential customers have.

Whilst a local mini-cab firm won’t be expected to have state of the art graphics, customers may expect something clean, simple and easy to make bookings from.

What Is Customer Experience

Contact Information – We thought we would highlight this one at the top of the user experience as to find where your contact details and location is one of the top reasons people may visit your website. Make sure they are on every page where practical.

At Aspiring Panda, we think of the customer experience as the journey that current and potential customers take through your website. If a customer comes onto your site they should be able to find what they want quickly and act.

This means your site should make the purchasing or enquiry process as seamless and easy to understand as possible.

Another aspect to this is to make sure that your site loads quickly, so that users do not leave your site frustrated at being unable to use your site properly. You can test how quickly your site loads here.

If you would like to speak to an expert about your customer experience call us on +44 (0)20 8861 0115.
